Braunwald , the car-free resort in southern Glarus, located between 1200 and 1900 meters above sea level, is only accessible by funicular from Linthal with a connection to the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), or on foot.

 

The Braunwald funicular railway (BRSB) is the only connection to Braunwald.

The funicular climbs 600 meters in 7 minutes and takes you to the sunny Braunwald terrace. You can reach the Linthal valley station by car or public transport (Linthal-Braunwaldbahn station). Plenty of parking is available at the Braunwaldbahn valley station at reasonable rates.

♡Note: The Klausen Pass is closed in winter. In summer, a

Postbus line from Flüelen to Linthal.

 

The BRSB operates daily between 6:25 and 8:25 a.m. and between 4:25 and 5:55 p.m. every quarter of an hour. During other operating hours (5:25 a.m. and 10:55 p.m.), the BRSB operates every half hour. The last departure is at 11:55 p.m.

 

The bubbles «Grotzenbüel 1» and «Dome Grotzenbüel» are located above the village of Braunwald in the Grotzenbüel at 1559 meters above sea level, in the immediate vicinity of the Chämistube mountain restaurant, the Grotzenbüel rope park and the gondola lift

Hüttenberg – Grotzenbüel.

 

Arrival- Departure

Check-in is possible from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the latest

After booking, you will receive a detailed fact sheet by email with important information for your overnight stay.

Check-in and check-out take place at the Chämistube mountain restaurant, Grotzenbüel.

 

Check-out is mandatory and prompt at 9.00 am

The bubbles are supervised by the Chämistube team, whose daily schedule is strictly scheduled. Cleaning takes place in the morning, after which the employees begin their lunch business in the restaurant.

The journey from Linthal to Braunwald is usually made by

Funicular railway.

Alternatively, you can reach the sun terrace on foot in just under 2 hours via a beautiful, albeit steep, mountain path.

 

From Braunwald you have the following options to get to the Bubbles

To get to «Grotzenbüel 1» and «Dome Grotzenbüel»:

 

Arrival on foot or with your own e-bike

From Braunwald, several scenic, moderately ascending trails lead to Grotzenbüel. Please allow up to an hour for the hike. You will receive detailed directions after booking.

 

Arrival by cable car Hüttenberg – Grotzenbüel

 

From the Braunwald funicular mountain station in about 10 minutes walk

Initially along Oberloochstrasse and later along Hüttenbergstrasse to Hüttenberg, where the valley station of the Hüttenberg – Grotzenbüel gondola is located. The gondola runs every 30 minutes during the summer season and takes you comfortably to the Bubbles.

Please note that you're at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters above sea level, and it can get chilly at any time of year. The weather can change quickly in the mountains, and thunderstorms are occasionally possible. We therefore recommend packing an extra sweater and a pair of warm socks—true to the motto "always take off."

♡The Braunwald Panorama Trail is a technically easy circular hike with the most beautiful views of the Glarus Alps and leads from Grotzenbüel via Chnügrat, Seeblengrat to the Gumen mountain inn at 1900 m above sea level.

frequently asked Questions

Are there any shopping facilities locally?
Braunwald has a village shop and the Schwettiberg-Lädeli (little shop). Information on opening hours can be found here and here. Opening hours are very limited; both shops are closed on Sundays! The shops are about a 25-30 minute walk from the glass igloo. Due to the current situation, we recommend bringing any necessary groceries from the valley.

Braunwald offers many different options for young and old.
The Braunwald Adventure Camp is an ideal starting point for numerous outdoor activities, such as scenic hikes through meadows and forests, boulder climbing, via ferrata, scooter fun, mountain bike tours, snowshoe hikes amidst impressive mountains, tobogganing, and much more.
