Our alpine sleeping basket by the Glarus sea of stars offers moments of happiness of a special kind.

Experience a night under the in a bed in the middle of the forest,

From your bed you can enjoy a magnificent view of the starry sky and experience unique alpenglow.

Whether for adventurers or romantics, the first Alpine sleeping basket in the Swiss mountains offers a unique overnight experience in enchanting surroundings.

The alpine sleeping basket is new this season in the middle of the forest just above Braunwald.

Availability

The alpine sleeping basket can be booked from May to September.

From Monday to Sunday
CHF 169.- for 2 persons/night incl. bed linen

The price does not include travel, board and visitor's tax.​

Visitor's tax

All guests staying overnight in Braunwald must pay visitor's tax. This is a tax based on cantonal law and the respective municipal ordinance.

Adults: CHF 1.90 per person per night
Children (6-16 years): CHF 0.95 per child per night
Children up to 6 years: Free of charge

The visitor's tax is to be paid directly in cash or via Twint on site. Tourist tax forms are available at the Alpenschlafkorb next door in the shelter. Please fill in the form after your stay and put it together with the total amount in an envelope in the corresponding letterbox on site.

The outdoor kitchen has a wide range of cooking facilities as well as the necessary crockery. You may use everything available.

Please note that the shelter and the outdoor kitchen are getting on in years. Due to the lack of a building permit we are not allowed to change anything. There are already a few broken slats and broken dishes. Caution is advised when using and entering the shelter.

location

Braunwald, the car-free holiday resort in the southern Glarus region between 1200-1900 m above sea level, can be reached by funicular railway from Linthal with connection to the SBB.

At the Braunwaldbahn valley station (in Linthal) there are plenty of parking spaces available at reasonable rates (CHF 5.-/day, each additional day CHF 3.-). The GPS address of the Braunwaldbahn valley station is Stachelbergstrasse 2, 8783 Linthal. Attention: The Klausen Pass is closed in winter (open approx. May until beginning of November). The SBB railway station is called "Linthal Braunwaldbahn".

The funicular runs from 05:55 to 23:55, each xx.25 and xx.55 - from 21:00 only at xx.55.

The Alpine Sleeping Basket is located a little above the village of Braunwald at approx. 1300 meter above sea level.

You will receive detailed directions and the exact location after booking.

Arrival- Departure

There is no reception, your host on site is Köbi Schuler.

Check-in is possible from 16:00 hrs.
After booking, you will receive a detailed factsheet with important information and the number code for your overnight stay in the Alpenschlafkorb by e-mail.

Check-out must take place by 11:00 a.m. at the latest.
We ask you to leave the accommodation as you would like to find it.

The journey from Linthal to Braunwald is by funicular.
(Braunwald can be reached on foot from Linthal in 1½ to 2 hours. However, the path is quite steep, so we recommend travelling by funicular).

From Braunwald, the following options are open to you to get to the Alpine Sleeping Basket:

Arrival on foot
From Braunwald, a slightly ascending path leads you to the Alpenschlafkorb in about 30 minutes on foot. 

Arrival by coach
A horse-drawn carriage is available from Braunwald to take you directly to the Alpine Sleeping Basket, subject to prior reservation. As an additional option, the carriage ride can be booked with a regional aperitif. Please enquire/book early if you are interested.

Arrival by taxi
A taxi is available from Braunwald to take you comfortably to the Alpenschlafkorb, subject to prior reservation. If you wish to travel by taxi, please contact the transport company Schuler-Transporte in good time (www.schuler-transporte.ch).

The Alpenschlafkorb is also easily accessible by (e-)bike. Bikes can be transported free of charge on the Braunwaldbahn and Sportbahnen Braunwald. In Braunwald it is possible to rent e-mountain bikes.

There are various restaurants in Braunwald. Particularly recommended is the restaurant of the "Hotel Tödiblick", which can be reached by a leisurely 20-minute walk. The restaurant offers our guests a romantic candlelight dinner in three or five courses after advance reservation. Of course, an à la carte dinner is also possible.

It is also possible to enjoy the rich breakfast buffet with authentic products à discrétion at the Hotel Tödiblick. Alternatively, a small breakfast can also be booked.

We recommend clothing suitable for the weather as well as good shoes, sunglasses & sun cream, rainwear if necessary and a rucksack.

Note: Even in summer there can be cold nights. Extra blankets are available on site. Otherwise bring appropriate clothing. 

tip: Warm socks and a hat or headband for sleeping work wonders!

♡ Drinks & food (no drinking water available - there is a restaurant with running water at the Grotzenbüel mountain station. The public toilets are also located there.

Please note that you are at about 1300 metres above sea level and it can get chilly at all times of the year. The weather can change quickly in the mountains and thunderstorms can occasionally occur. We therefore recommend that you pack an extra jumper and a pair of warm socks.

frequently asked Questions

Are there shopping facilities on site?

Braunwald has a village shop and the Schwettiberg-Lädeli.
Opening hours are very limited, both shops are closed on Sunday! The shops are about a 25-30 minute walk from the alpine sleeping basket.
Due to the situation, we recommend that you bring the food you need from the valley.

What about sanitary facilities?

There are public toilets at the Grotzenbüel mountain station. There is a mobile toilet cabin on the grounds of the Alpine Sleeping Basket. Toilet paper is of course available on site.

What activities are there in the nearby surroundings?

Braunwald offers many different possibilities for young and old.
The Adventure Camp Braunwald is the ideal starting point for numerous outdoor activities such as scenic hikes through meadows and forests, rock climbing, climbing via ferrata, scooter fun, mountain bike tours, snowshoe hikes in the midst of impressive mountain scenery, sledding fun and much more.

How can I check in?

After booking, you will receive a detailed factsheet by e-mail with important information and the number code for your overnight stay in the Alpine sleeping basket. There is no reception on site. Therefore, please read our factsheet carefully before your arrival. With the numerical code contained therein, you can move into the Alpenschlafkorb from 16:00.
