Tourist taxes
All guests staying overnight in Braunwald must pay a tourist tax. This is a fee based on cantonal law and the respective municipal regulations.


Adults: CHF 1.90 per person per night
Children (6-16 years): CHF 0.95 per child per night

The tourist tax must be paid directly in cash or via Twint on site.

Braunwald , the car-free holiday resort in the southern Glarus region between 1200-1900 m above sea level, can be reached by funicular from Linthal with a connection to the SBB.

There are enough parking spaces at the valley station of the Braunwaldbahn (in Linthal) at reasonable rates. The GPS address of the valley station of the Braunwaldbahn is Stachelbergstrasse 2, 8783 Linthal. Please note: The Klausen Pass is closed in winter (open from around May to the beginning of November). The SBB train station is called "Linthal Braunwaldbahn".

The funicular runs from 05:55 to 23:55, at xx.25 and xx.55 – from 21:00 only at xx.55.

The glass igloo is located just above the village of Braunwald at about 1300 meters above sea level.

Arrival- Departure

Check-in is possible between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
After booking, you will receive a detailed fact sheet by email with important information for your overnight stay in the Dome. Check-in/check-out takes place via the restaurant management of the Grotzenbüel mountain restaurant.

The journey from Linthal to Braunwald is made by funicular railway.
(Braunwald can be reached on foot from Linthal in 1½ to 2 hours. However, the path is quite steep, so we recommend arriving by funicular.)

From Braunwald you have the following options to get to the dome:

Arrival on foot
From Braunwald, a slightly uphill path takes you to the dome in about 45 minutes on foot. You will receive detailed directions after booking.

Arriving by train
After a 5-minute walk you reach the Niederschlaft - Hüttenberg gondola, which takes you directly to the Dome in Grotzenbüel.

The Dome is easily accessible by (e-)bike . Bikes can be transported free of charge on the Braunwaldbahn and the Braunwald sports cable cars. In Braunwald, it is possible to rent e-mountain bikes.

Note: Even in summer there can be cold nights. Free tip: Warm socks and a hat or headband for sleeping work wonders!

Please note that you are at about 1300 meters above sea level and it can get cold at any time of year. The weather can change quickly in the mountains and there may be occasional thunderstorms. We therefore recommend packing an extra sweater and pair of warm socks - true to the motto "you can always take off"!

♡ The new zip line directly at the mountain inn Gumen with a total length of over 1000m. Booking and equipment rental is possible directly on site during opening hours.

♡The Dwarf - Bartli Family Trail is a varied family hiking trail between the Grotzenbüel and the Gumen.

♡The fast scooter ride takes you along 3km of unpaved road to Braunwald. You can book directly on site.

♡The Braunwald high trail leads from Grotzenbüel over the Chnügrat, Seeblengrat to the Gumen mountain inn at 1900 m above sea level.

frequently asked Questions

Are there any shopping facilities locally?
Braunwald has a village shop and the Schwettiberg-Lädeli. Information about opening times can be found here and here. The opening times are very limited, both shops are closed on Sundays! The shops are about 25-30 minutes walk from the glass igloo.
Due to the situation, we recommend bringing the necessary food from the valley.

What activities are there in the nearby area?
Braunwald offers many different options for young and old.
The Braunwald adventure camp is an ideal starting point for numerous outdoor activities such as scenic hikes through meadows and forests, climbing boulders, conquering via ferratas, scooter fun, mountain bike tours, snowshoe hikes in the midst of impressive mountains, sledding fun and much more.
